Let your light radiate by the way you live your life. Your speech and actions must tell your story. There must be brightness in your character that casts out all darkness of doubt. Shine like the sun, twinkle like stars and be at peace in the world. Share your love, spread it around to everyone – the happy and unhappy, the rich, poor, hungry and homeless. Share uplifting thoughts, spread your wisdom as you impact friends, strangers and the unforgotten of this world. American author Wilferd Peterson (1900 – 1995) says, “Let your light shine. Be a source of strength and courage. Share your wisdom. Radiate love.”

American poet and writer Wheeler Wilcox (1850 – 1919) observes, “The man who radiates good cheer, who makes life happier wherever he meets it, is always a man of vision and faith.” Must we therefore forgive and forget indiscretions? Must we forgive when hurt was done? When those that suffer abuses experience pain? What about those that that make life a living hell? Can we forget wrongs of those that are rude, cruel and offensive? Despite the nature of the wrong, we must still forgive our friends, neighbors, strangers and enemies. Mark what social critic and former Professor of Psychiatry of the State University of New York, Thomas Szasz (1920 -2012) says, “The stupid neither forgive nor forget, the naïve forgive and forget, the wise forgive but do not forget.” Forgiveness then must be viewed as a wake-up call to the wise, so we must be wise in forgiving.

Why must we be polite in our thoughts and actions?

As the saying goes, “Kill with politeness.” It is good and sensible to acknowledge acts of kindness. Send thank-you cards, notes of appreciation and offer peace offerings to those with whom you are in conflict. By expressing generosity you will be taking the high road by doing what is right and just. Grant favors to all, especially the least among us. Encourage friends, give them a pat on the back, say a few nice words to persons that are down and out and urge them on to their goals. Never give up!  Think through what you will do when conflicts arise. An unknown writer says, “We greatly influence others with our thoughts. If our thoughts are kind, peaceful and quiet, turned only toward good, then we also influence ourselves and radiate peace all around us.” So, see your thoughts impacting situations you encounter.

Do a favor, bend over backwards, give and build confidence in people. It is a time to compliment, support and acknowledge the good things that people do. This is what Mother Teresa of Calcutta (1910 -1997) - Roman Catholic religious sister and Nobel Prize winner would do. It is Mother Theresa that teaches, “Let no one come to you without leaving better and happier. Be the living expression of God's kindness. Kindness in your face, kindness in your eyes, kindness in your smile.” That is such a God-inspired kindness.

What must a Christian demeanor be in our society?

A Christian like Jesus Christ must be a light unto the world. Modeling Jesus, he must be a living symbol of the good news to all. His light must not be hidden nor dimmed, but always shine brightly unto those he encounters. Why must he not hide his light under a bushel? A Christian work is for all to see. It is hoped that through his life, persons will come to know the Lord and glorify His name. For all things he must give thanks. As a Christian reaches out to people, he must do so joyfully. In wonderful ways he must touch the repentant and unrepentant soul.

Being a support to the least among us by his demeanor he will make the Word known to those he meets. Even by his ministry, if a Christian is able to touch one person, he must consider that was what he was called to do. He must be wise according to his status in life. Simplicity and humility must be the hallmark of his faith. Encountering such a Christian in the world must be a positive experience, for his walk will be crowned with a life that is true and brilliant.
